As we approach this transit where Venus will kiss the sun and be reborn we must also recognize that she is travelling over treacherous waters as she has to literally travel through the gates of Hades in order to be rebirthed. We can ask ourselves in these upcoming days, 'What parts of myself must I let die so that I can be reborn?"
In ancient days our ancestors thought that Venus was 2 separate stars, the morning star named Phosphorus, and the evening star named Hesperus. It wasn't until much later that they realized this was in fact one star and that this star had an 18 month cycle to her where she would move between being the evening star and the morning star.
A Little Venus Mythology
Venus in mythology represents Inanna, Queen of Heaven and one day she made a conscious choice to visit her sister Ereshkigal who is the Queen of the Dead. As she travels through the 7 gates of the underworld she has to take off one piece of clothing or jewelry that represents who she is...thus leaving a piece of her identity at each gate. She does this to see her sister and she knows that the only way to get there, is to take off every piece of herself that she identifies with.
When she gets past the 7th gate, she doesn't get the reunion that she perhaps was anticipating. She ends up completely naked, bearing herself in the most vulnerable way she could. Her sister Ereshkigal, ends up killing her and hanging Inanna on a meat hook. Doesn't sound like the best recipe for a family reunion but hey, who am I to judge?! :)
Before Inanna went into the underworld she instructed Ninshubar, (which was her second in command and in Astrology it would be the planet Mercury) that if she did not return in 3 days to come and rescue her. After 3 days when Inanna had not returned, Ninshubar summoned Enki (a sky god who was Inanna's father) and even though they were not on the best of terms ((but that's for another day,)) he still wanted to help rescue his daughter so he created 2 beings from the dirt in his hands who could enter into the underworld and rescue Inanna. To make a long story short(er), Ereshkigal granted the 2 beings a wish after they arrived and they asked for Inanna's body. After receiving her body Enki poured a solution of the water and food of life over her and she came back to life.
Inanna was resurrected after 3 days of being in the underworld.
After Inanna returned to re-claim her throne, she realized that her husband Dumuzi took control of her throne and in fact he never mourned her death. Because of this, she had him taken away and rightfully reclaimed her throne.
How This Relates to Us Now
Venus is Inanna and her descent into the underworld to visit her sister is referencing ourselves going within the depths of ourselves to meet our own shadow self. She had to release 7 items that she had attached herself to that she identified with. We too, when facing our own shadow have to release the things that we have over identified with. When she faced her sister, and when we face our shadow - the former version(s) of ourselves have to die. This is the only way that we are reborn and can rightfully claim our throne.
One thing I noticed within this story is that Inanna's husband didn't seem to mind that she was dead. Upon her rebirth she clearly saw that he held no value for her and did not hold her in high regard so she let him and her relationship with him go. She knew she would not settle for this after facing the depths of hell/herself that she had just faced.
How could this show up in your own life?
What parts of yourself need to die in order for a rebirth? Relationships? Career? Habits? Health? Friends? Venus is entering into the underworld AND she will have to pass through Pluto to complete her journey on this particular Venus Retrograde. She not only passes over him one time, but she hovers around him and makes at least 3 passes over him (from what I can see) through this process. This is a MASSIVE UPHEAVEL in our worth, our value and how we see ourselves. This is a time that we get to recreate the structure in our lives that will sustain us moving forward.
Some questions to ponder:
Do you know yourself? Do you really? How can you tell?
How well can you hold true your own value and worth when you are in the face of the most terrifying thing?
How well can you hold your value and worth when you are in the face of death itself?
Will you remain in integrity with yourself?
What and who are you attached to that you feel you could never let go of?
Everything that we are holding onto in an unhealthy, co-dependent nature will be rocked.
THIS is what must happen for us to enter into a new way - to be rebirthed.
Dates to Pay Attention To:
December 19th, 2021 is when Venus stations retrograde at 26 degrees Capricorn.
December 24-28th is when Venus moves back over Pluto and they sit there together. This is also when the Saturn / Uranus Square is happening. THIS HOLIDAY SEASON WILL BE INTERESTING to say the least.
January 8th, 2022 - THE NEW CYCLE BEGINS!! She is slowly making her way back to KISS the SUN which happens on January 8th, 2022 - this is the moment of her rebirth (remember the story above?)
20 days later, on January 28th, she stations direct at 11 degrees Capricorn where she will stay in her shadow for a time and she is gearing up to pass back over Pluto again on March 3rd, 2022.
During this time, we will see Ninshubur, also known as Mercury go Retrograde and pass over Pluto a few times as he moves in Aquarius back into Capricorn and moves over the 26 degree mark that Venus stationed Retro at on December 19th, 2021.
Can you feel the intensity approaching?
What are we leaving behind that we cannot carry with us into our new lives?
This is the question to ponder during this time.
Where is this affecting you personally in your life?
